The water supply in Zurich is an important service that is provided by around 300 employees of Zurich Water Supply (WVZ).
These dedicated professionals ensure that first-class drinking water flows from the taps in the city of Zurich and 67 surrounding municipalities at all times. Their work is crucial for the health and well-being of the population, and they ensure that the water quality meets the highest standards.
The main tasks of Zurich Water Supply (WVZ) include
- Supply of drinking and extinguishing water: Provision of water for daily needs and for fire protection.
- Public fountain systems: operation and maintenance of fountains that are available to the public.
- Emergency water supply: Ensuring the supply of water in emergencies.
- Installation inspections: Checking water installations to ensure safety and functionality.
- Drinking water quality control: Regular testing and monitoring of water quality to protect the health of the population.
- Drinking water supply to partner communities: Provision of drinking water to neighboring communities.
- Services and consulting: Support in the areas of drinking water, well systems, building services, quality monitoring and laboratory.
- Construction and maintenance of in-house infrastructure: Planning, construction and maintenance of the necessary infrastructure for the water supply.
These tasks are crucial for ensuring a reliable and safe water supply in the region.
