Together with the Citizen Science Zurich team and the StadtWildTiere reporting platform, we invite you to a guided tour of Sihlfeld cemetery. Discover the fascinating world of wild animals that live in the middle of our city. Find out how squirrels, hedgehogs, foxes and other animals spend the night in the cemetery.
Citizen Science Zurich is a joint competence center of the University of Zurich and ETH Zurich that, among other things, supports researchers in involving citizens in scientific research. Olivia Höhener, Managing Director of Citizen Science Zurich, gives us an overview of the scope of Citizen Science. With the help of volunteers, valuable data on Zurich's wildlife can be collected in the Sihlfeld cemetery, for example. This data helps to better understand the needs of animals and protect their habitat.
The project StadtWildTiere investigates the biodiversity of wild animals in Switzerland's urban areas, cities and regions. The focus is on mammals, reptiles and amphibians as well as flower-visiting insects such as wild bees and butterflies. The researchers are investigating where the animals live, how they feed and what challenges they have to overcome in the city. Dr. Sandra Gloor will provide us with exciting insights into past and current projects in the Zurich region. She is a wildlife biologist and managing director of StadtWildTiere Schweiz, where she is responsible for project development, organization and communication.
After the tour there will be a social exchange. Learn more about Citizen Science Zurich, the connection to the Faculty of Science of the University of Zurich and how you can actively participate in Citizen Science Zurich and StadtWildTiere Zurich.
