Introduction to the exhibition
17:30: Apéro
The Zurich polymath Johann Jakob Scheuchzer was born in Zurich on August 2, 1672, making this past August the 350th anniversary of his birth. A welcome occasion to draw attention to this fascinating personality and his impressive life's work with an exhibition!
Driven by boundless curiosity and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, Scheuchzer occupied himself with an impressively broad range of fields of knowledge. On numerous journeys, he explored the nature, culture and economy of the Swiss Alps and, with his regional studies and publications, made a significant contribution to changing the view of the Alps abroad and making them a sought-after travel destination.
Through texts and exhibits, the exhibition gives an impression of the versatility of Scheuchzer's work and the environment in which it took place.
At the exhibition there will be the opportunity to purchase the Scheuchzer biography by Urs Leu, published last year, at the attractive price of 30 CHF (instead of 38 CHF). Please bring the exact amount if possible. Details about the book: https://www.chronos-verlag.ch/node/28503
We are looking forward to the event with hopefully numerous participants, especially of course with you!
